Position Overview:
The Director of Accounting / Comptroller will oversee all financial and accounting operations for the company, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial planning. This role reports directly to the CEO and collaborates closely with executive leadership to support the company’s strategic goals. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in corporate accounting, including S-Corp structures, multi-entity management, and government contract compliance (e.g., FAR, DFARS). The position will manage a team of five accounting professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Supervise and mentor the accounting team, ensuring high performance and professional development.
  • Manage workloads and ensure timely and accurate delivery of financial reports and accounting tasks.

Financial Management:

  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Manage cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Develop and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with corporate policies.

Government Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with government contract accounting requirements, including FAR and DFARS regulations.
  • Oversee preparation and submission of indirect cost rate proposals and incurred cost submissions.
  • Lead audits, including DCAA, external financial audits, and internal audits.

Tax and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including payroll taxes, corporate filings, and tax planning for an S-Corp structure.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely filings.

Strategic Support:

  • Provide financial analysis and insights to executive leadership to support strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with other departments to optimize financial performance and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or government contracting industries strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in S-Corp structures and multi-entity financial management.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, FAR, and DFARS regulations.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to manage teams, streamline processes, and implement effective controls.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
