We are recruiting an experienced Launch Vehicle Electrical Engineer to support the design, integration, and testing of electrical and avionics systems for launch vehicles.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who understands how complex aerospace electrical systems come together at the vehicle level. The ideal candidate will bring approximately 10+ years of relevant experience and a strong background in avionics, electrical system integration, cable harness design, and integrated system testing.
Candidates do not need experience in every area listed below. We are particularly interested in engineers who have worked with real aerospace or defense hardware and can bring experience across several aspects of electrical design, integration, and test.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, select, and integrate avionics systems for launch vehicles.
- Support the development, selection, and integration of telemetry and RF systems.
- Develop detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturing drawings for cable harnesses using electrical CAD tools.
- Design and integrate cable harnesses and associated electrical systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on vehicle-level electrical system design and integration.
- Conduct functional testing, validation, and troubleshooting of integrated electrical systems.
- Support vehicle integration and testing within Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) laboratory environments.
- Design ordnance initiation circuits to meet applicable NASA range flight safety and Flight Termination System requirements.
- Support electrical systems throughout the design, integration, validation, and test lifecycle.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Approximately 10+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Significant experience with avionics and electrical system design and integration.
- Experience designing and integrating cable harnesses.
- Proficiency with electrical CAD tools for cable harness and electrical system design. Experience does not need to be limited to a specific CAD platform.
- Experience with flight computers, batteries, and/or power management systems.
- Experience working with complex aerospace, launch vehicle, spacecraft, or defense systems.
Experience testing integrated electrical systems is particularly important for this position.
Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not expected to possess every qualification below. Strong candidates will typically bring experience in several of these areas:
- Testing integrated launch vehicle or aerospace electrical systems.
- Telemetry systems and RF systems.
- SolidWorks Electrical CAD and PDM software.
- Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) laboratory environments.
- Cable harness manufacturing.
- Ordnance and ordnance initiation circuits.
- Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design.
- Software development.
- Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE).
- Flight Termination Systems (FTS).
- RCC 319 requirements.
Ideal Background
We are especially interested in engineers who have supported launch vehicle, spacecraft, or complex aerospace and defense programs and understand the realities of taking electrical hardware from design through integration and test.
Direct experience with every specific launch vehicle system is not required. Engineers coming from major aerospace or defense programs who have developed strong, transferable experience in avionics, electrical integration, and testing are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working across disciplines, solving hardware-level problems, and contributing wherever needed to move vehicle electrical systems through integration and test.
Work Location
This position is based in Huntsville, Alabama and supports launch vehicle activities from the Huntsville office. Candidates should be able to work onsite when the engineering, integration, or testing work requires it.
The Opportunity
This role will add experienced engineering bench strength to a team with established electrical and avionics capabilities that is continuing to expand.
The organization is also planning to further develop and mature telemetry capabilities in-house, creating opportunities for engineers with telemetry and RF backgrounds to contribute to increasingly sophisticated internal systems rather than relying exclusively on subcontracted or commercial off-the-shelf solutions.
